What is Epson Error Code 0x97?

Error Code 0x97 is a warning when there is a problem with the internal hardware. It could be caused by motherboard failure or other interior parts. When this error occurs, it happens suddenly and may lead for your printer to turn off or stop printing. Hardware failure may be needing a quick fix or replacement. One way to find out is trying tested troubleshoots.

When a hardware failure happens without warning, you can try the following:

  1. When this error message appears. Turn on off power and unplug.
  2. Unplug all connected cables.
  3. Unplug USB drivers.
  4. Remove all printer cartridges.
  5. Still turned off, press down power to release all remaining current in the printer.
  6. Plug in all cables and USB. Reinstall printer cartridges. Turn power on.
  7. See if the error message remains.
  8. If error persists, continue to the next method.

Unplug and plug in (2)

  1. Turn off Epson printer and unplug.
  2. Disconnect all cables and USB.
  3. Wait for 5 minutes until printer cools down.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds. DO NOT RELEASE.
  5. After 60 seconds (DO NOT RELEASE), plug in power cord and hold for another 60 seconds.
  6.    Release power button. Check if error message still appears.

Clean Mechanic Pad

  1. Turn off printer and unplug.
  2. Remove printer cover and casing.
  3. Wet tissue with warm water. Wipe cleaning pad.
  4. Leave wet tissue for a few minutes on the pad.
  5. Remove tissue and leave it to dry completely.
  6. Plug in and turn on printer. See if error persists.

If all methods are tried without improvement, you might need to call the customer support or help of a technician. Epson XP-830 is a multifunction printer that has a complex interior hardware. Therefore, a professional help is needed when all methods were tried.

Nothing is more inconvenient than having your printer malfunction in the middle of document creation. However, more delays can be avoided if you know how to troubleshoot a common printer error. For Epson users, Error Code 0x97 has many fixes you can try.

  • Mine started having this problem about 4 weeks ago. It is very weird that we are all having the same issue. Im hoping the steps above help.

  • Hummmm…..I’m also in the same boat! Same error, I followed all the instructions and no luck.

  • So, get this…..I have not one, but two of these printers in our home office. And, you guessed it, both have suddenly begun to have essentially the same issue. I’m not a big believer in coincidences. Epson, what’s up?!?!? (see prior comment about owning TWO of these printers). Ya’ll need to fess up if there’s some type of inherent firmware and/or software issue here….otherwise, I may not race out to buy another (or two) of your printers.

  • Yes – just happened to my printer also. Haven’t tried the fixes yet. But it is a printer with not much use- only I refilled the ink cartridges instead of putting in new ones. 9/2/18

  • Its seems to coincidental that we all have the same error in the same month.
I have tried all the trouble shooting without success?
Has anyone contacted Epson to let them know. seems very Odd and strange Date and Problem?
My printer is less than 2 years old… Not happy Jan……
