Error Code 0x97 is a warning when there is a problem with the internal hardware. It could be caused by motherboard failure or other interior parts. When this error occurs, it happens suddenly and may lead for your printer to turn off or stop printing. Hardware failure may be needing a quick fix or replacement. One way to find out is trying tested troubleshoots.

  • I am so disappointed. I bought an Epson Workforce 3640 because I had heard it was a quality product. I use my printer for personal and volunteer work. I count on it working when I need it. I thought it had good color prints/photos. Wrong. The color is fair at best. As to the dreaded 0×97 message. When this happened I called what I thought was an Epson help line. After an hour trying to work with a person who was I think knowledgeable but had such a heavy accent I could barely understand him, told me I had 4 errors and my cost would be substantial. At that I hung up. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. When I buy a product I expect it to live up to its potential, to work. I paid to have my printer set up, I am not going to pay to have this error message fixed and I am not going to try and fix this glitch myself. Bottom line? I am going shopping today for an HP ENVY 5055. Signed. Very Disappointed

  • I HAVE 2 EPSONS, both Workforce units. Basically junk per se. Always clogs despite regular maintenance and alignment. Next, despite the recommendations here, I too am getting CODE x97. I can not clear it. And, you are right, cost to repair us more than the actual unit. Any further recommended approaches or should I just scrap the printers and buy a more RELIABLE and DEPENDABLE UNIT?

    Thanks, Joe

  • This is my second Epson 3640, and my second experience with the code 097. Customer service provided my second printer for free. I have tried all the suggestions listed and none work. I will try to contact the customer service again to see if they will repeat the offer and offer a free printer for a second time. Let’s hope that they will agree, as a teacher on a budget I can’t afford the cost again… let alone the extra printing ink that I have stored. I’d like to think that this equipment isn’t a piece of junk and that they’d stand behind their product, but I am beginning to serious wonder.

  • EPSON printers are a piece of garbage. This is my last Epson Purchase. Nothing they recommend to resolve this 0X97 error message works.
