What is “Carriage Jam” error?

An error message “Carriage Jam” on HP Photosmart C4280 is a printer issue related to the carriage that holds the ink cartridges. This may be caused by a previous printing error such as paper jam or a foreign object stuck during a printing session.

 

How to solve the Carriage Jam error?

Solution #1:

  1. Turn off the printer and let it sit for 60 seconds then turn it on again. Wait until the printer is ready then run a test print.

Solution #2:

  1. Turn off the printer and remove all papers on the paper tray.
  2. Turn on the printer. While still on, remove the power cord at the back of the printer.
  3. Open the access cover to the paper rollers and remove the jammed paper. Make sure no pieces of paper or foreign objects are on the paper rollers.
  4. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.
  5. Run a test print.

Solution #3:

  1. Unplug power cord.
  2. Open cartridge carriage and check for any paper jams or foreign objects.
  3. Move the ink carriage and see if it can move freely.
  4. Make sure there are no obstructions.
  5. Plug the power cord back in.
  6. Run test print.

Solution #4

  1. Open the lid to access printer carriage. Make sure it completely stops moving.
  2. Remove ink cartridges. Be sure not to touch the printheads.
  3. Move the cartridge carriage from side to side to see if there is any obstruction.
  4. Reinstall the ink cartridges to their correct color carriage.
  5. Run a test print.
